Yuan Fang 方(b. 1996, Shenzhen, China) lives and works in New York City. She holds an MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts.
Fang’s practice began with a self-detachment from external environment while maintaining a rebellious posture of exile. Throughout her upbringing, she has been constantly experiencing a lack of belonging and displacement, reflected by her surroundings. For her, desire, emotions, and memory are not concepts, but unsteady and tangible experiences. As an Asian woman living in the context of cosmopolitanism, she attempts to explore her own vulnerability through the sense of self-estrangement in her practice.
