Chloe West (b. Cheyenne, WY) lives and works in St. Louis, Missouri. She received a BFA from the University of Wyoming in 2015, and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2017. Her figurative paintings are continually inspired by European art from the Medieval and Renaissance eras. Her works often reference 17th-century Flemish and Dutch painting through her use of iconographies associated with memento mori and vanitas paintings. Her careful depictions of the nude figure and dramatic lighting recall Baroque traditions. West is continuously engrossed in the history of representation, symbolism, and functions of the gaze as it relates to the human form.
