For FOG 2024, Micki Meng presents a thematic booth with artists Michelle Blade, Gabriella Boyd, Anne Buckwalter, Veronica Fernandez, Gabriel Mills, Chanel Khoury, Heesoo Kwon, Francesca Mollett, Nina Molloy, Kristy Luck, Cathy Lu and Danielle Roberts. A through-line through each of these artist’s practice is attention to the subject as the combination of both a body and its context. Like artist Adrian Piper’s performative utterance of a visual pathology where identity is created in the eyes of a viewer not subject, hence the structural effects of identity (to Piper– race and racism) reveal themselves in the pathology of the spectator, the artists here insist that the constructions of self are both their own beings and the external factors to them.
